03 Coverage
What "covering Cambridge" actually means here
Cambridge is four square miles with a river down one side, a rail line through the middle and almost no off-street parking, and every one of those facts shows up in an appliance call. A 48-inch range that went into a Huron Village kitchen during a gut renovation did not come up the back stairs, and it will not go down them either; the work happens where the appliance stands.
So the route matters more than the mileage. North Cambridge and Porter Square in one direction, Cambridgeport and the streets below Massachusetts Avenue in the other, East Cambridge and the newer buildings by Lechmere across the top. Everything on this list is inside a fifteen-minute drive of everything else, which is why a morning call and an afternoon call can sit in different neighbourhoods without either being squeezed.
The diagram is a diagram, not a map: four service areas and the order a run usually takes them in.
04 Questions
Asked before the visit is booked
The same six come up on the phone most weeks. The answers here are the answers you would get if you rang.
A burner keeps clicking after it has lit. Is that dangerous?
It is not dangerous, but it is telling you something. Continuous sparking after ignition means the module is not seeing a flame at the sense electrode — usually a wet or dirty electrode after a boil-over, a burner cap sitting a millimetre off its seat, or a cracked porcelain insulator. Dry it, seat the cap square, and if it still clicks with a good flame the electrode or the module needs attention.
What does a visit cost?
The service call is a flat $95 and it covers coming out and finding the fault properly. It comes off the bill when you approve the repair, and the repair price is given before anything is taken apart.
The oven runs hot. Can it be recalibrated rather than repaired?
Sometimes, and that is the first thing checked. Most of these ovens have an offset adjustment for exactly this, and if the cavity is a consistent twenty degrees out with a healthy element and a sound door seal, an offset is the correct fix. A cavity that swings — right at one temperature and wrong at another — is a sensor or an element, and no amount of offset will settle it.
My kitchen is on the third floor with a narrow back stair. Is that a problem?
Not for the visit. Almost everything is done in place: burners, igniters, valves, elements, sensors, hinges, pumps and boards all come out through the front of the appliance. Worth mentioning when you book, though, because access decides how long a job takes and what gets carried up.
The dishwasher leaves water in the bottom. Is that the pump?
Often it is not. Standing water at the end of a cycle is a drain problem before it is a pump problem: a blocked filter, a check valve holding open, a drain hose without a high loop, or a disposal air gap that was never cleared after the last install. Those get eliminated first because they are quick and they are free.
Do you work on the older gas ranges as well as the current models?
Yes. The older sealed-burner ranges are mechanically straightforward and parts for the common wear items are still available. What changes with age is the electronics: an obsolete board on a very old unit is where a repair sometimes stops making sense, and you will be told that rather than sold a part.

Describe the fault and the call is half over
Model number, what it is doing, and how the kitchen is reached. That is usually enough to know what is coming out of the van.
